Ben ElthamBen Eltham is a cultural policy researcher, creative producer and arts journalist. He studied neuroscience and philosophy at the University of Queensland before spending the 2000s as a festival producer and director at This Is Not Art, Straight Out of Brisbane and Melbourne Fringe. Ben writes about Australian arts, culture and politics for Crikey, New Matilda, the ABC, Meanjin Quarterly and many other publications. He is a fellow of the Centre for Policy Development and is completing a doctorate in Australian cultural policy at the University of Western Sydney’s Institute for Culture and Society.

An Up-to-the-minute Review of Australian Cultural Policy

Ben Eltham presents a short critical overview of the current state of play in Australian cultural policy, including the status of the incipient National Cultural Policy beging developed by the Gillard Labor government. He will briefly describe the most current available information from the responsible policy-makers about the status of the NCP, the Australia Council Review, including what type and number of metrics are likely to be included in the policy, as well as the current status of state and territory cultural policy.
